ADB-Japan Scholarship Program for Developing Countries in Asia and Pacific
Introduction
The aim of the Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ABD-JSP) is to enable eligible students from ADB’s developing member countries of the Asian and Pacific region to commence higher studies in various fields. These scholarships are available for postgraduate programs related to science & technology, economics, management, law, and other relevant fields. Students taking part in these programs can assist in economic and scientific development in their home countries after completion of their courses.

These scholarships from ABD-JSP are available for all participating academic institutes in the Asia and Pacific region.
Fields of Study
ADB-JSP is offering scholarships for postgraduate programs in the fields of management, economics, natural resource management, agriculture, education, science & technology, health, and other subjects related to developmental studies.
No. of Scholarships
Every year, 300 scholarships are awarded under the ADB-JSP.
Target Group
Only students from ADB’s borrowing member countries can apply for these scholarships. These include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, and several others.
Scholarship value
The ADB-Japan Scholarship Program is a full scholarship that covers complete tuition fees, travel expenses, medical insurance, subsistence and housing allowance, and a grant for books and instructional materials.
The said scholarship is available for a minimum of one year. The students have to attain the performance as described by the institution for further continuation of the scholarship for the second year. The maximum duration of this scholarship for students of master’s and Ph.D. programs is two years.
Eligibility Criteria
• The student must be a citizen of an ABD borrowing member country that is also eligible for the Japanese Official Development Assistant scholarship.
• The student will gain admission in any of the approved courses in 25 institutes mentioned by ADB.
• Minimum a bachelor’s or equivalent degree with an excellent academic record
• Applicants already enrolled in a graduate program can’t take this scholarship.
• The maximum age for most of the programs is 35 years. The age limit is 45 years for programs designed for managers and senior officials.
• Minimum two years of professional working experience after a university degree
• The applicant must agree to return to his/her home country after completion of the program.
• Any staff member of ADB and his/her relative is not eligible for this scholarship.
• Applicants living or working in any other country except their home country are not eligible.
• The applicant must be in good health.
Application Procedure
• The applicant will request an application form from his/her desired partner institute of ADB-JSP.
• The applicant will complete all the required documents and sends them to the institute.
• The institute will shortlist the candidates and sends the list to ADB.
• The ADB reviews these submissions by institutes and recommends the eligible applicants according to its selection criteria.
• The Japanese executive director will approve the list.
• ADB informs all the institutes and they will subsequently inform students.
Important Notes
• Applicants will send all the duly-filled documents to approved institutes. They will not contact ADB directly.
• The applications should be submitted at least 6 months before the commencement of studies. The students need to contact their desired institute to know about the application deadline for ADB scholarship.
